About Us
SoL is a network of students, staff and faculty dedicated to assisting Latino males in navigating their academic pursuit and attaining the degree of their choice. The men of SoL engage in career preparation, community service, & social interaction in an effort to maximize their own personal and professional development. |
History
In the year of 2006, a Latino Student on campus named Oliver Vasquez had been involved with Black Male Initiative for a semester. Black Male Initiative (BMI) is an organization that assists Black Males in attending the end goal of Graduation. Oliver then asked for their Faculty Advisor, Don Bramlett, for help with creating a similar organization that is aimed at Latino Males on campus. After intensive planning and the assistance of other Latino Students on campus, Supporting Opportunities for Latinos was up and running by the Fall 2006 semester with their first President, Ulysses Diaz. |
Today
Through the years, there have been countless numbers of Latinos that have been able to achieve our end goal of Graduation. We have been honored to have a graduation rate of 98% of members that have committed to SoL and have been honored to call them our SoL Brothers. Apart from Graduation, SoL has contributed countless of hours, events and efforts into the Latino Resource Center and the Latino Community as a whole. |
